Metadata as a control plane¶
Metadata becomes strategically useful when it drives behaviour rather than merely describing assets after the fact.
In a data-first platform, machine-readable metadata can act as a control plane for:
- provisioning;
- policy evaluation;
- contract validation;
- access workflows;
- quality expectations;
- lineage and provenance;
- observability;
- semantic projection;
- lifecycle management.
The important shift is from cataloguing what already happened to declaring intent that platforms can reconcile and enforce.

- Question How would this work when…?
