Data as a first-class citizen¶
Treating data as a first-class citizen means designing software, platforms and delivery processes so that data meaning, quality, ownership, contracts, lineage, security and operability are considered at design and delivery time rather than reconstructed downstream.
Why it matters¶
When data concerns are postponed, downstream teams inherit ambiguity. They compensate with transformations, report-specific logic, manual governance and duplicated definitions.
A data-first approach moves those concerns closer to the place where knowledge is strongest: the source and the software delivery process that creates the data.
This is not¶
It is not a requirement to centralise all data, create one universal model, or force every team onto one technology stack.

Architecture improves when its assumptions are challenged. Say which kind of contribution you're making:

- Evidence We've seen this too…
- Question How would this work when…?
- Alternative Another way to approach this…
